What do you do for a local business search? When you are looking for a specific product from some shop not too far from where you live?
Go to the yellow pages or the local rag? Yes, some people still do that. There you will find local business listings ranging from little blocks to maybe half page. Showing what they sell, who they are, how to contact them and their address.
Do they show their full product range? Do they tell you a bit about themselves and their business? Is there a full price list? Can you search for a specific thing you want? Are those prices listed still current? Is there a map?
Maybe not. Probably not.
Use it before your local competition does it to you. The "walking fingers" are clicking on Google, Yahoo and Bing.
A website that works is the most cost-and-time efficient way to grow your business.
Recent research shows that an ever growing and a high percentage of people are using the Internet and particularly Google to find the product they are looking for.
You can go to Google Local search, or Yahoo Local if you like. Type in the product name and the suburb you live in. Whao! It shows all the businesses that sell that product on a map in a large area surrounding your suburb.
Click on one of the business links and you can most likely browse through their whole product range, check specials they have on sale, order it online to save yourself a trip. You can see backgrounds and photos of the owners, read information on how to choose the best product for your needs and check their opening times. Maybe send enquiries to clarify a few things you'd like to know before you buy without being pressurised by sales staff.
You can even print out a map found online to show the quickest route from your place to theirs.
You can have a website and have it optimised for Google Search, very likely for much less than your Yellow Pages ad. With a interactive site you can can update it at any time without extra cost.
